A guide such as Kishor, Mehul or Aadil can explain the Kanheri Caves’ carvings and Buddhist history. The outing may also include a lion safari, a boat ride and a visit to the Vipassana Pagoda or a Jain temple.

“I was picked up promptly by the driver and safely transferred. Kishor met me and explained the day. The buses took us to the wildlife park and then to the caves. Kishor talked in detail about the carvings and sculptures. The day was very calm and serene, it was a beautiful day that ended at the temple. This was my favourite day in Mumbai and was very blessed to have Kishor to show me the park.”

Spend about five to six hours exploring the 109 Kanheri Caves in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, then visit the park’s safari area. The caves hold Buddhist sculptures, reliefs, pillars, stupas and inscriptions cut into basalt.

“We had a very interesting tour with Rahil. It was convenient that he picked us up and brought us back to the hotel. It was nice to have someone who could more easily navigate the park entrance entrance fees and expectations and was happy to explain that to us. It is clear he is passionate about nature and animals.”

★★★★★★★★★★4.4 · 5 reviews · 6 hours · from $71

This private English-language tour pairs Sanjay Gandhi National Park and its ancient Kanheri Caves with the Global Vipassana Pagoda. Expect a guide, pickup and drop-off, and bus and ferry transfers.
